KINDS OF RESIDENCE PERMITS FOR FOREIGNERS IN NORTH MACEDONIA

According to Macedonian laws, a foreigner can reside in North Macedonia if has regulated his legal residence and is allowed to stay on its territory as short-term stay, long-term or permanent stay.

“Short-term stay” is a stay for a period not longer than 90 days in any 180-day period preceding each day of residence.

“Temporary residence” is usually granted for 1 year to a foreigner in North Macedonia for the following reasons:
work,
schooling or study,
participation in programs of international exchange of pupils or students,
specialization, professional development or practical training,
volunteering,
scientific research,
treatment,
accommodation or care in institutions for the elderly,
family reunification or
humanitarian reasons.

To a foreigner member of the immediate family of a citizen of North Macedonia,
a foreigner who is originally from the Republic of Macedonia,
child of a foreigner born in North Macedonia or a foreign resident of a Member State of the European Union or of OECD, who has acquired
ownership right of an apartment, residential building or house in North Macedonia in amount of at least 40.000,-EUR.

“Permanent residence” is granted to a foreigner who at least five years before submitting the permanent residence application continuously resided in North Macedonia based on temporary residence.
